Picasso Selected works, a journey in Pablo Picasso's creativity

Fifty years after the legendary Spanish artist Pablo Picasso's passing, the Musée national Picasso-Paris celebrates his artistic legacy by presenting an exceptional exhibition titled "The Collection. Selected Works".

This exhibition serves as a prelude to the renovation of the museum's permanent collection, which will be housed across three floors of the Hôtel Salé starting in March 2024. It's an opportunity for art enthusiasts from around the world to immerse themselves in Picasso's creative universe through a remarkable selection of works, including some of the most iconic paintings, sculptures, drawings, and ceramics from his career.

Pablo Picasso, whose death marked the history of art on April 8, 1973, left behind an immense artistic legacy, consisting of several thousand works. After his passing, an extensive inventory effort took place, spanning several years, to catalog these creations. Over 3,700 works directly from the artist's studios entered the national collections, forming the core of the Musée national Picasso-Paris. Since its inauguration in 1985, the museum has continued to enrich itself, offering the public the opportunity to discover and understand the work of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

The exhibition "The Collection. Selected Works" highlights over seventy iconic works from the Musée national Picasso-Paris, encompassing paintings, sculptures, drawings, and ceramics. This selection provides a fascinating overview of the diversity of techniques and styles explored by Picasso throughout his prolific and continuously innovative life. From his early cubist experiments to works created in the 1960s, the exhibition offers a journey through the pivotal moments and recurring themes that defined his oeuvre.

One of the major strengths of this exhibition lies in its ability to present a range of key moments in Picasso's career, offering visitors insight into his artistic evolution over the decades. Visitors will have the opportunity to trace the artist's path, from his initial forays into cubism, a major artistic revolution of the 20th century, to his later explorations of various styles and techniques. The exhibited works also reveal Picasso's recurring preferences and obsessions, including portraits, mythology, war, and love, themes that showcase the richness and complexity of his artistic expression.

The "Picasso Selected Works at the Picasso Museum" exhibition offers a unique opportunity to delve into the world of one of the most prolific and influential artists of the 20th century. It allows visitors to discover the multiple facets of Picasso's unending creativity and understand his lasting impact on modern art. An essential artistic experience for art enthusiasts and the curious alike, this exhibition attests to Picasso's ability to push the boundaries of art and captivate future generations with his innovative vision.
