Le Café du Commerce belongs to the great lineage of 19th-century Parisian bouillons — those popular, fixed-price establishments that fed workers with a hearty beef pot. The building at 51 rue du Commerce, originally intended as a fabric shop, became in 1921 a single-menu restaurant named "Aux Mille Couverts", set up to feed the many workers of the district's then-thriving car industry.
During the Second World War, Monsieur Paul, the owner at the time, became known for his modest prices, kept outside the black market and partly subsidised by the town hall of the 15th arrondissement. A piece of local history that still explains residents' attachment to the address today.

Today, Le Café du Commerce belongs to the Joulie family's collection of great Parisian brasseries, alongside Bouillon Chartier, Le Wepler and Auberge Dab. This new lease of life comes with a slightly refreshed menu and prices significantly lowered, while keeping the soul of the place intact.
As for the setting, nowhere else in the 15th looks quite like it: a spacious dining room with a multicoloured mosaic tile floor, a more intimate lounge, and leafy mezzanines tiered beneath a vast glass roof that opens on fine days. Together, they create a bucolic ambience rarely found in Paris, as suited to a quiet lunch for two as to a dinner with friends or a larger group.
Traditional French cooking, at affordable prices
The menu at Le Café du Commerce celebrates the great classics of French brasserie cooking: bone marrow, steak frites, duck confit, prawn cocktail or pike quenelle, paired with a fine selection of estate wines. Expect to pay between €20 and €40 à la carte, a rare rate for an address carrying this much history.
The restaurant is open every day from 11.30am to 11pm, including bank holidays, and offers a panoramic view from its mezzanine floors. The venue is also adapted for visitors with reduced mobility (accessible toilets, adapted dining room).
