The European Heritage Days will take place this year on September 19, 20, and 21, 2025 in Paris. This major cultural event invites visitors to explore the exceptional richness of our heritage through unique tours, special openings, and engaging activities.
A European Event Since 1984
Created in 1984 under the name “Open Days of Historic Monuments” by the Ministry of Culture, these days aim to raise awareness of heritage and make it accessible to everyone. Quickly adopted by other European countries, the event has become a major international celebration, attracting nearly 30 million visitors across around fifty countries, from Europe to Taiwan. In France, the event is organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Regional Directorates of Cultural Affairs (DRAC), with support from numerous associations, local authorities, and private owners.
Heritage in All Its Forms
During the weekend, the public can discover religious buildings, administrative sites, industrial sites, artisan workshops, as well as private residences that are exceptionally opened for the occasion. To enhance these visits, a variety of activities are offered: guided tours, themed circuits, craft demonstrations, theatrical performances, concerts, and musical walks. The goal: learn and enjoy, for all ages and all audiences.
2025 Theme: Architectural Heritage
For its 42nd edition, the theme is “Architectural Heritage.” Participants will have the opportunity to explore iconic Parisian monuments and sites, many of which are exceptionally open to the public. This theme highlights the history and diversity of architecture while emphasizing the importance of its preservation for future generations.
Initiatives for Young People: “Look Up!”
Starting on Friday, September 19, students can take part in the “Look Up!” initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education. These encounters with heritage professionals allow young people to discover traditional skills and professions and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of cultural transmission.
Why Participate?
The European Heritage Days offer a unique opportunity to step inside exceptional sites, often closed to the public, and to experience original cultural activities. They also help visitors understand the importance of preserving and promoting heritage, while immersing themselves in the history and cultural richness of Paris.
The entire team at Hôtel Moderniste is available for any information or guidance on suggested routes. Make the most of this exceptional event and embark on a journey through Parisian heritage!
