Notre Dame Cathedral at the Cité de l'Architecture

The magnificent Notre-Dame Cathedral, a symbol of Paris just like the Eiffel Tower, is currently being honored by the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine through an exhibition entitled "Notre-Dame de Paris: From Builders to Restorers." This exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to delve into the history of this fascinating monument and discover the behind-the-scenes of its restoration.

On April 15, 2019, a devastating fire ravaged the cathedral, sparking a global mobilization for its reconstruction. Thanks to the generosity of numerous donors, an extensive restoration project was launched with the aim of returning the cathedral to its faithful and visitors from around the world by 2024, while respecting the authenticity of the materials and remaining faithful to the wounded monument.

This extraordinary human adventure is currently unfolding throughout France, with the participation of craftsmen, artisans, architects, engineers, and researchers. These experts continue the long tradition of the builders who have contributed to shaping this world heritage site.

The "Notre-Dame de Paris: From Builders to Restorers" exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the public institution responsible for the conservation and restoration of the Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine. It offers visitors a privileged connection to the building, which is currently inaccessible to the public. By highlighting the expertise of the craftsmen and artisans, the exhibition allows visitors to discover the techniques used in heritage construction and showcases the evolutions over time.
