Ingres and Delacroix, two masters of painting at the Delacroix Museum

Ingres and Delacroix, two masters of painting at the Delacroix Museum

This unique exhibition reveals a lesser-known aspect of two major figures of the 19th century, Ingres and Delacroix, by exploring their intimacy through the objects that were part of their personal universe.

By visiting this exhibition, you will have the unique experience of discovering two artistic geniuses in their human dimension.

The exhibition highlights surprising and evocative objects that belonged to the two artists. Among them are Ingres's famous violin, a tobacco pot shaped like a fish that belonged to Delacroix, a laurel wreath offered to Ingres by the inhabitants of Montauban, and an illuminator's inkwell brought back by Delacroix from his trip to Morocco in 1832. These objects reveal the personal tastes, inspirations, and memories of these two great painters.

The exhibition offers a fascinating glimpse into the daily lives of the artists, exploring the intimate relationship between their personal lives and their artistic work. Through a carefully curated selection of objects and paintings, visitors are invited to discover the multiple facets of each artist's personality.

The Delacroix Museum, located in the rich and fascinating district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, provides an ideal setting for this encounter between Ingres and Delacroix. By juxtaposing the artists' personal objects and artworks, the exhibition reveals the contrasts and similarities between their artistic styles, while also highlighting the tensions and rivalries that animated the artistic world of the 19th century.

In addition to the main exhibition, the Delacroix Museum offers a series of special events and activities to enrich visitors' experience. From study days to live artistic performances, guided tours, and workshops, there is something for every artistic taste and curiosity!
